Paksu Margareeta hostel

When I go to a hostel I expect it to be very community oriented. I stayed for 3 nights and saw almost no one. It was almost like I was on a silent retreat. There were no organized events which is key part to meet people. My room was sweltering so I had to leave the window open each evening and just slept in my boxers. But it was clean. Also, the internet was pure garbage and I work remote so it really impacted my ability to do so. I spent a ton of money on data. I’ll say the location is great. And maybe if you have a family and want a quiet spot it would be ok. Otherwise, I’d try another hostel. Do not go as a solo traveler!

Incredible hostel. The architecture alone is jaw dropping - the building is super old but VERY well maintained. Super cool sauna and cold plunge open every day from 9-11. You have to check this out if you're in the area. Also worth mentioning is it's right next to the ferry, so it's a quick walk to the boat.

This is the best hostel in Tallin so far. Best location and facilities. Very clean and amazing common zones with ping pong and sauna and swimming pool. I dont think you can find a place like this in Europe for the price. The manager is also very kind and professional. I would definitly go back!!! always

The hostel is located right across the road from the entrance to the old town, and it's also just about a 10-minute walk to the port. It's a bit outdated and would need some renovations. One slightly negative aspect was having only one shower for two floors, but luckily, that wasn't a problem when I stayed there since the hostel wasn't that full. Everything was clean, and the dorms are equipped with big lockers. There's also a sauna, but unfortunately, it's only available between 9 and 11 am.

Fat Margaret's Hostel is conveniently located just outside of the walls of the Old Town. It is within walking distance of the Viking Ferry Terminal from Tallinn, Estonia and the Old Town. It is also conveniently located across the street from a tram stop to reach the bus terminal. Fat Margaret's is in an old building that could use some updating and TLC. The floor of the shared bathroom on the 2nd floor was always wet. There were two toilets, 1 shower and 1 sink for the entire 2nd floor. The free morning sauna was excellent, along with the small whirlpool (filled with cold water). The multiple showers and WC located in the basement were also excellent. The staff person who checked me in was friendly and helpful. The other staff, not so much. The Hostels policy is to leave your key at the desk when you leave the building. Theoretically, the front desk is staffed 24/7. In reality, staff is pulled away to complete other duties. Since there is no bell or other way of indicating someone is in need of service you sit and wait until they decide to return. This is probably a management issue, rather than individual staff behavior. Overall staff appeared grumpy. The price, location and sauna were great. I saw many older travelers and families using the location.

Old historic building and good location, but that’s where the positives end. Rooms get warm and stuffy in the summer, and it is difficult to open the windows at night for cool fresh air, because it faces a main street (it gets noisy), and the window ledge is short enough for people to crawl through. Thought an electric fan at the very least would have been appropriate.Furthermore, soundproofing was lacking, and staff did not attempt to stop people who were playing table tennis at the common area well into midnight, even though hostel rules state that guests ought to be quiet after 10pm. Most of the staff were nonchalant, and there is little oversight as to whom they pass room keys to (as all guests are required to leave their keys at the desk when they go out).Generally price is on the higher end for a hostel

Suitable for a short stay. Sounds can be heard through the walls. Room key had to be returned every time you left. The house is really old, but some of the rooms have been renovated

Hostel is really perfect situated. You can be in historical city centre in 5 min (literally) by foot, in port in 10 min by foot and in 5 min in Port Museum. Common room in hostel is perfect and has everything you need (TV, sofas, tables, chairs, ping-pong table, playstation, fridge, sauna next door etc. If you need cheap but good hostel, take it!

Fat Margarets is well located for walking access to the Old City and there is a tram stop right across the street for explorations further afield. We stayed in a private room with a bathroom – it was clean, and beds were comfortable. Kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, but we experienced a lack of utensils (where are all the spoons!). The front desk is staffed 24/7; we experienced inconsistent service. It has hostel facilities, but lacks the hostel vibe. ** If you have a car- it is good to know that there is unofficial free parking less than 200m from the hostel around the restaurant called Moon. This can save you 10eu/24 hours, but we don’t think this parking “gift” will last forever. (July 2023)

Good location and the value for money.There're separate lockers in rooms for several people which is convenient, but there were no sockets next to the upper bed , or at least I haven't found one.
